Is your web site safe from internet hackers? Is it safe from your own PC?

Quite a few computers recently have suffered from viruses that were actually designed to attack web sites. These viruses can "latch onto" your web site in a variety of ways and then use the site to infect your visitors’ PCs. This would be a very quick way to damage your company’s reputation.

New project: Starbucks Haiti relief flyers

Last Friday, Starbucks employees at the Mayfair & Center location in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, donated their tips to aid the earthquake victims in Haiti. All tips received that day were given to the American Red Cross.

I designed a pair of flyers for this event: one for the day of the event, to explain its purpose and details; and the other to display the final tally of donations.

How much is your web site costing you?

Are you paying too much for ongoing maintenance and minor changes, or is this simply the cost of doing business on the web? The answer may depend on how your site was constructed in the first place.

It’s important to understand that building a web site is not like creating a Word document; it’s not something you can just "slap together". For a site to function properly even at a basic level, a lot of pieces have to be in place behind the scenes. The same principle applies to many changes or updates that might occur after the initial construction of the site.

Spam and your website: a connection?

No junk mail!

Most of us who have been on the internet for any length of time have received a sizeable amount of spam (junk mail for the internet), and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you: it’s not fun.

By now, spam has become a big enough problem that most e-mail and hosting providers have addressed it at some level; but it nonetheless continues to be a consistent irritation. Even people with good spam filters occasionally have trouble with too much or too little being blocked.
